Love Letter – List #8

A very random Love Letter list this week! All over the place but filled with lots of goodness. Enjoy! ❀

Dangerous Angels by Francesca Lia Block – I actually bought this a few years ago and read "Weetzie Bat" from this, but never finished it… The night before I flew out to Florida I decided to throw it in my bag so I could reread "Weetzie Bat" and finally finish reading "Witch Baby". Well I did, and now I'm about to start "Cherokee Bat and the Goat Guys", the third story in the book! The stories are light hearted and written for teens in a poetic retro meets old fashioned hollywood sort of way… I really love how dreamy it all is. Block fully captures how I pictured Hollywood and California as a teenager, and if I ever go back to L.A. I'd like to try to track down the places she mentions! Especially "Oki Dog", heh, mainly because I'm hungry as I write this and it always sounds yummy.

Something else cool related to the Weetzie Bat stories – I found out last year brand, "Wildfox Couture" did a photoshoot based on the stories with their clothing plus a "What's in Weetzie's purse" which is really magical looking and creative… check it out here. There was also a live reading of the Weetzie Bat Screen play where they wore some of Wildfox's clothing and had actors resembling the characters – I found a few photos and it looks so fun! I love the earrings that they put on Weetzie πŸ™‚

Strawberry shaped pillows! Someone on formspring linked these to me and now I totally want to make them… I'm picturing them with chairs on my porch, on a hot summer evening with hanging lights, nice beverages + snacks and good friends.

Creature comforts – since I've been home from seeing my family, I've been wanting to clean my house, get to bed early, use the computer less, and read instead of watch things… I blame it on being forced into those activities while away – but it's been really nice since those are luxuries in my self employedness. I'm going to try to keep it up though! On that topic, I really enjoyed Elsie's post on "A Beautiful Mess" about being a workaholic, and how you balance that

Thinking of summer – Pink lemonade, macaroons, strawberry & pink lemonade cupcakes, road trips, poofy dresses, birthday parties, adventures, pool and beach going…

And on the note of beach going… Vintage swim caps! Looove the idea of this – I really want to find a nice one to wear to the beach this summer with my dream retro style bathing suit. Fingers crossed all of this comes true! πŸ™‚

The 20,000 Leagues under the Sea: Sumbarine Voyage ride at Disney – Somehow I stumbled onto a picture of this ride before going out of town and it brought up all kinds of memories from when I was a kid. I only rode it once or twice, but I remember it being pretty terrifying as a child (going under water in a tiny submarine that would give you claustrophobia, giant squids attacking you, an octopus battling a shark! etc… You can watch a video of the ride here.) The ride isn't in the park anymore, but someone created a huge fan site about it's history, the people who worked there, behind the scenes photos and what not. It was a lot of fun to browse… I never realized it was the most expensive theme park ride to maintain! Explains why it's gone. If you ever rode the ride, you should check out the fan site for a nerdy trip down memory lane.

Love Letter – list #1

This is Love Letter #1 – a list of all things I'm liking at the moment…my new alternative to doing posts like "Things I love Thursday"! I make lists and doodles like this in my private journal, so I thought it would be nice to start doing them on my blog instead! It's still a little rough but I'm hoping after a few posts I'll have a good idea of how I'd like to do these lists for you guys!

Princess Jellyfish (Kuragehime) on Hulu - I haven't watched anime in years… but lots of internet friends kept posting screen caps of this on tumblr, so I finally checked it out and it's really good!! Not your typical anime story, and the character designs are awesome. Reminds me a little of Ai Yazawa's story telling. You should go watch it!

Adventure Time season 2! My favorite line so far was Jake saying, "Mmmm, girl you smell GOOD! Did you take a bath in rainbows and cupcakes?" hahaha. I've doodled lots of Marceline sketches since I watched the latest 5 episodes, so I'll have to share those soon.

Up!! I finally saw up this week with my boyfriend. I've been putting it off forever because I knew it would make me cry and I wasn't sure about that… well it did. A lot. I'm such a sensitive movie watcher! But I really adored it – Kevin and Doug were my favorites. The opening and ending songs are fantastic too and I've been listening to them a lot!

Lately I've been reading the book "The illusion of life: Disney animation" and it is SO good. I try to read a little every and take notes about good points they bring up. If you are interested in drawing or animation you should definitely check it out!

Eisley's new song "Smarter" - I can't wait for their new album! I hope they add more dates to their tour and come through Atlanta. Speaking of Eisley, if you haven't seen Sherri DuPree Bemis' flickr gallery before, you should go check it out! She takes the cutest photos and has great style. I also recently found out she has a tumblr which is pretty fun too. I love it when musicians share stuff like that online!

Costume quest (ps3 download) and Kirby's epic yarn (wii)… both are fantastic! You can download a demo of costume quest for free which is pretty awesome – that is how I got to try it out! I love the graphics in it and its not too hard… which is my kind of thing since I'm rotten at video games. πŸ˜‰
